RUSSIAN HUMAN
RIGHTS RESOURCE CENTER “SUTYAJNIK” ANNOUNCES MAJOR FUNDING OF INNOVATIVE
PROMOTION OF HUMAN RIGHTS
The ten year old Human Rights
Resource Center “Sutyajnik”, located in the Urals city of Ekaterinburg,
Russia (www.sutyajnik.ru), announces that
it has received major grants from the European Commission (Initiative for
Democracy and Human Rights), the MacArthur Foundation, and the Open Society
Institute (Budapest) to conduct innovate projects that promote Human Rights.
The grants will allow Sutyajnik to
offer an 18 month program "The Practical School of Human Rights for Young
Lawyers", create a
Urals-Siberian coalition of Human Rights NGOs, train young attorneys in the
fundamentals of Human Rights litigation in Russian courts and in the European
Court of Human Rights, disseminate training and other Human Rights resources
over the internet, and litigate Human Rights cases in Russian Courts as well as
the European Court of Human Rights.
Sutyajnik, working
with its partner NGO Pravoboretz, will use this opportunity to incubate a corps
of Russian Human Rights attorneys and NGOs that will seek to make the covenants
of the European Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and fundamental
Freedoms a reality in Russia.
