We Are Sutyajnik. 2005 ANNUAL REPORT

Press Release - NGO Sutyajnik Reports on Its 2005 Activity

As the state increased its control over the activity of Russian NGOs, the NGO Sutyajnik (Yekaterinburg, Russia) responded appropriately in publishing its annual report. Directed toward colleagues, citizens, and state representatives, the report epitomized Sutyajnik's long-standing tradition of openness and greatly surpassed Russian legislators' expectations regarding the honest documentation of organizational activity. Last month, legislators tightened rules pertaining to the annual activity reports of social organizations in Russia. Sutyajnik easily met the new requirements, having already upheld a policy of transparency and open record-keeping for several years.

"We Are Sutyajnik" www.sutyajnik.ru/rus/reports/2005/eng -- This brochure serves not only as a reporting document, but also as a key to methodology in the human rights sphere. It is a guidebook for anyone who may have questions about the infringement and protection of human rights. The report is also an interactive reference on a number of topics: our online resources allow readers to access information and receive advice, listen to broadcasts on human rights, and even watch video conferences. In addition, readers can write their own responses, ideas, and proposals, becoming virtual Sutyajnik volunteers through the interactive website.

Reading the report you will discover what exactly the strong "band of Sutyajniks" and "Sutyajnik syndrome" are; what the press, authorities on human rights, political officials, students, and Sutyajnik staff members have written about Sutyajnik; and what projects the NGO has not only created for itself, but helped other organizations develop. You will learn about Sutyajnik's cases, each representing real, genuine problems in human rights protection; about Sutyajnik's influence on Russian legislation and legal practice; about Sutyajnik's website and new informational resources; about future plans; about a number of other worthy human rights publications; and about the organization's educational functions. Sutyajnik not only works in the courtroom, but also leads seminars on various topics in human rights.

Sutyajnik encourages you to read its 2005 report, "We Are Sutyajnik."
